About The Academy
General questions
Is it really free? ▾
Yes — every single Gaydio Academy course and project is completely free to participants. No hidden costs, no charges at all. We are a not-for-profit organisation and all our programmes are funded by grants and partner organisations.
Do I need any experience? ▾
No experience whatsoever is needed. Our courses are designed to welcome complete beginners. Whether you've never been near a microphone or just want to build your confidence — there's a programme for you.
Do I have to be LGBTQ+ to take part? ▾
No. We're LGBTQ+ focussed, not LGBTQ+ exclusive. Our courses are open to everyone. We just ask that all participants respect and celebrate the inclusive environment we create.
What age do I need to be? ▾
This varies by course and funder. Some programmes are open to people 16+ while others are 18+. Each course listing will specify the age requirements. If you're unsure, get in touch and we'll point you in the right direction.
Where are courses held? ▾
We run courses across the UK — including Manchester, Birmingham, Sheffield, Leeds, Brighton and London. Some programmes are also available online. Check the Current Courses page for locations available right now.
How long are the courses? ▾
Course length varies depending on the programme and funder. They can range from 3 full days to 5 half days, to longer multi-week programmes. All course details — including duration — are listed on each individual course page.
What will I come away with? ▾
You'll leave with real recordings you made yourself — demos, podcast episodes, or audio packages. You'll have new skills, more confidence, a stronger CV, and connections with like-minded people. Many participants go on to get jobs, start their own podcasts, or return to education.
Can I volunteer with the Academy after completing a course? ▾
Absolutely. After completing a course, there are opportunities to progress to further work experience and volunteering. Head to the Volunteer page to express your interest and we'll be in touch about upcoming opportunities.
I'm an organisation — can I work with you? ▾
Yes! We work with businesses, charities, funders and community organisations to deliver bespoke training programmes and content creation projects. Visit our Work With Us page to find out more and get in touch.
